[dropcap type=”1″]I[/dropcap]n 1926 Coco Chanel introduced to the world the epitome of fashion, the little black dress. A fashion concept that never changes unlike the rest of the fashion trends. Gradually however, a new vogue emerged that can walk hand-in-hand with the old one and that is the Little White Dress (LWD).
Fashion designers put an end to the rule “no white after Labor day” hence nothing white to be worn unless it is summer, some time ago by making white the new black. What is needed now is for you to break that rule also.
White is glamorous, chic, clean, fragile yet bold, making a look ultra feminine and elegant; plus it is as versatile as black. Reality is, though, that it takes a lot of courage to wear white in the middle of winter as it is certain that the rainy, muddy weather will be your enemy.
A LWD, however, has nothing to fear. The only rule you must follow is for your final look to be weather appropriate and you can mix and match the rest.
Choose your fabric right. While during summer the fabrics that come to mind when mentioning a LWD are linens and fairy-cottons, during winter are a complete no. Winter needs materials that have a bit of weight to them to tell to the world that summer is long gone. Cashmere, velvet, knitwear, leather will make you feel cozy conferring an ultimate luxury to your look.
Belt for shape control. The heavy winter fabrics can easily mask your body shape. So, pick a dress that highlights your waist preventing you from looking wider than you are and team it up with a belt that will define your silhouette.
Mix colors essential. Many women dread looking like a bride or even worse, a nurse (sorry to all the nurses but the total white outfit only looks normal inside a hospital ward) and hence don’t wear it. Unless you are Marilyn Monroe or, at least have her super-confidence, add a bit of color to your look. Beige, black, red, maroon; blazer, handbag, belt- pick one and it will break the monotony.
Tights go a long way. An item you definitely have in your wardrobe every winter is opaque tights. But did you know that they team up perfectly with a LWD? Wear either a black pair for a chic black and white look or go a bit further and choose a blue one to give an extra edge to your outfit.
Leather rock. A leather jacket can be worn anytime of the day with the appropriate LWD to create a casual-chic-with-a-touch-of-rock star look.
Accessorize it. Chunky bracelets, necklaces, ear-cuffs, either in gold or silver, are the best option for your LWD adding an extra rococo touch.
Booties a must. Whether in the morning or in the evening, wear your dress with a pair of ankle booties for an edgy yet ladylike look.
Don’t forget your makeup. To prevent an overly clean, almost aseptic look color your lips red, paint your nails dark and keep the rest to the minimum.
And if you are still wondering where to wear your LWD, well, absolutely everywhere. It’s going to be a white winter after all!
