We have a special attachment to our handbags. In there lay all the necessary stuff that can cover any possible need we may have during the day; from makeup to mobile phone to organiser to perfume, painkillers, tampons, hand cream, candy, name it and you will find it in there. We simply cannot live without them.

Yet, by the time we get home after a busy day the first thing we want to do is throw our bag out of the window. Our shoulder is aching to the point of despair and so is our neck. Still the next day, we pick it up and off we go to face another day.

big bust cross body bag

Reality is most women carry in our bags many unnecessary things. That’s the first step to help our shoulder and neck from the strain of carrying a heavy bag. The next step is to choose a bag that will put less strain there; a cross-body bag or, else known as the messenger bag.

A cross-body bag is a bag designed to be worn on one shoulder across your body. It is the bag of choice for many women but not for the big busted. Women with a big bust believe that such a bag is a forbidden option for them; it will “cross their heart” in such a way that their bust will unflatteringly protrude.

So, it is indeed not possible to wear a cross-body bag if your décolleté is impressingly full? Actually, it is, as long as a few small yet significant details are not overlooked:

Tip #1: Keep the bag in front (somewhere between your belly button and left or right hip). This way the strap won’t get stuck between your “ladies” but instead will lay flat on top without adding any pressure.

Benefits of cross-body bags

They are more difficult to dislodge from your shoulder especially in busy places

They leave your hands free to do other tasks like carry your baby or shopping or even dance

They put less strain on your shoulder, neck and back compared to ordinary shoulder handbags

Tip #2: Pick the right strap width. The bustier you are, the larger the strap width should be. Especially if you are wearing a thin blouse it is better to choose a strap that is at least 3 cm wide. It will not dig in between your “ladies” and will definitely not get stuck in your underwear. Plus, it is very comfortable. During winter, where we wear more clothes, a thinner strap will work fine since it will fall on top of the layers of your outer clothing and not your actual bust.

Tip #3: Choose a bag with depth vertically instead of a bulky one. The bag should lay relatively flat against your body. It is important is for the bag to be proportional to your body, so don’t pick a really large bag if you are not that tall and vice versa.

Tip #4: The length of the strap should be at hip level. Many women falsely believe that if they place their cross-body bag low on their leg it will look better. Quite the opposite; the lower it is placed on the leg, the more bouncing and uncontrollable movement of the strap you will experience. Bring the bag closer to your hip level for minimal bouncing and for an elongated body look.

Dare and wear a cross-body bag this way and you will have all the necessary confidence and style to experience the practicality and convenience this type of bag has to offer!

  1. I like how the article explains that cross-body bags are more difficult to dislodge from your shoulder, making them harder to steal. I am going to be taking a trip to Mexico and I am wanting to find a good bag that I can carry around with me and not worry about it getting stolen, so I will look into getting a cross-body bag. Thank you for the information on the benefits of cross-body bags.
