[dropcap type=”1″]S[/dropcap]he came back early from work, only to walk in her husband been very intimate with one of her cousins…..Thank God its not me, you are now whispering. Well, it might be you very soon! A recent publication on gender differences is coming to create a firestorm between women of all ages and social backgrounds. Apparently there is now scientific ‘proof’ that men who cheat are somehow excused because their sexual impulses are to blame! Hard to believe?

Men are more likely to give in to sexual temptations

Natasha Tidwell, of the University of Texas and Paul Eastwick, assistant professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, strongly suggest that : ‘overall, these studies suggest that men are more likely to give in to sexual temptations because they tend to have stronger sexual impulse strength than women do’.

And what about self control, you must all be thinking. Doesn’t  self control play a major part in situations where the sexual impulse is stronger and is taking over? Well, apparently yes, it is. When self-control is exercised , the scientists found that the sex difference in behavior is greatly reduced.

The study was recently published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, and was composed of “two separate experiments: the first, to determine how the sexes reacted to real-life sexual temptations in their past and, the second, to pick apart sexual impulses and self-control using a rapid-fire reaction time task”.   It has to be noted here that the study was not cross cultural as it included participants only from America.

[quote_box_center]Results were not that unexpected; men experienced much stronger impulses than women did while reflecting on their past sexual behavior and they acted upon them more often  than women did. When men and women said they actually did exert self-control in sexual situations, impulse strength didn’t predict how much either sex would   actually engage in ‘off-limits’ sex,” added Tidwell.[/quote_box_center]

If men fail to use self-control, their sexual impulses can be quite strong

“Men have plenty of self-control — just as much as women,” says Eastwick. “However, if men fail to use self-control, their sexual impulses can be quite strong. This is often the situation when cheating occurs”.

Well, I am certain that we are all capable of being unfaithful to our partners – that’s the easiest part. We are also equally capable of controlling our sexual impulses and thoughts, so ditch that cheating boyfriend and reward yourself with someone who truly loves you – you deserve it!
